Double Bay is a harbourside eastern suburb of Sydney, NSW. Located 4 km from the Sydney central business district, Double Bay was founded shortly after initial European Settlement in 1788. The suburb takes its name from two geographical formations between Point Piper and Darling Point in Sydney Harbour. The eastern part of Double Bay is also known as Blackburn Cove.

The Double Bay Ferry wharf provides access to Eastern Suburbs ferry service. A number of popular attractions within the suburb are within easy walking distance.

Local Culture

Double Bay has a rich European culture, brought by the settlers who founded the area. The suburb began as a shelter for fishermen who fished around the harbour. The area then expanded to include cattle and lettuce farms which grew into the valleys of surrounding suburbs. Today the majority of Double Bay residents have English, Australian or Irish cultural backgrounds. Most residents are employed in professional, management, or administrative positions. Locals enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the suburb and its close proximity to the ocean.
