Local Culture

Neutral Bay has a rich and culturally diverse history. During Australia’s early colonial period, Neutral Bay was the designated docking port for all foreign vessels. Over the years, many different cultures have converged and blended within the area.

During the 20th century, Neutral Bay was developed and populated as an “alternative society suburb”, largely focused on arts, crafts and individualism. The unique architecture of that time still stands and sets Neutral Bay apart from other Sydney suburbs.
