The suburb of Randwick lies South-East of Sydney, NSW. Randwick was named after the village of Randwick in Glouchestershire, England – the birth place of Randwick’s six time mayor, Simeon Henry Pierce. Randwick is primarily residential and popular for its impressive and natural beauty.

Randwick is currently served by multiple city bus routes that provide transport to the busy Sydney central business district, as well as other popular destinations.

In 2012, the New South Wales Government committed to building a $1.6 billion light rail that will connect to Randwick, via Alison Road. A bus and tram interchange will also be established in Randwick.

Local Culture

Randwick has a rich cultural history that began with its establishment by European settlers in 1859. The architecture of the area is predominantly Gothic. Most of the original sandstone houses still stand and are on the Register of the National Estate.

Community and Recreation

A large variety of recreational activities are available to Randwick residents. The North-West portion of the suburb is largely occupied by the Randwick Racecourse. Coogee Oval hosts the Randwick District Rugby Union Football Club and several parks offer space for outdoor activities.

Randwick’s main commercial centre is located on Belmore Road. Royal Randwick Shopping Centre and Coles Shopping Centre offer a wide range of retail stores and convenient amenities.

The Spot is Randwick’s main entertainment district. Located in the South-East section of the suburb, The Spot is home to the Randwick Ritz cinema, a long line of relaxing cafes and a large selection of restaurants that showcase cuisine from many different cultures.
