Elizabeth Bay is a beautiful and exclusive harbour-side suburb in eastern Sydney, NSW. The area was originally known by the Aboriginal name ‘Yarrandabby’, until it was renamed after Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s wife, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Bay is located just a short 3 km from Sydney’s central business district.

Local Culture

Many historical homes still stand from the original European settlers. One such home is the Elizabeth Bay House, a Regency style home that has been standing proudly since 1837. Ashton, a Victorian Italianate villa, was built in 1875 and has survived as the only historic villa of its kind in the area. Both homes are listed in the New South Wales State Heritage listing.

Over half of Elizabeth Bay’s residents are Australian natives. Other residents hail from England, New Zealand, the United States of America, Germany and South Africa.

As Elizabeth Bay holds less than twenty individual houses, most residents live in apartments.

Elizabeth Bay is the perfect community for those who enjoy water and outdoor sports. The close proximity to the ocean offers plenty of opportunity for fishing, boating, water skiing and surfing.
